The CREATIVE MUSIC GUILD is very proud to present

~ Satoko Fujii and Natsuki Tamura ~

in concert on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, 8pm (doors at 7:30), at The
Community Music Center, 3350 SE Francis St., Portland. Tickets will be
available at the door on the day of the performance only and are
$15.00 General admission / $12.00 for Creative Music Guild members and
students with ID. All ages are welcome.

About the Musicians

"Satoko Fujii is an innovative and fearless pianist who loves rough
and tumble free jazz as much as she enjoys composing softer and more
lyrical pieces… Jazz lovers around the world need to start taking note
of her attack – and her restraint, which is even more impressive." —
Matt Cibula, Global Rhythm

Satoko Fujii is an internationally renowned pianist who performs both
classical forms as well as free improvisation with equal expertise.
Fujii studied classical piano from the age of four until age twenty
when she quit having realized that her classical training caused her
to lose her ability to improvise. Since that time Fujii has studied
jazz performance at Boston's Berklee College of Music and the New
England Conservatory of Music. Fuji's music is extremely diverse
ranging from intense free improvisation in her piano trio to her
modern classical compositions in her two orchestras to solo work.
Fujii appears on over thirty releases as leader or co-leader including
two duo recordings with fellow musician and husband Natsuki Tamura.

"Natsuki Tamura's trumpet has some of the stark, melancholy lyricism
of Miles, the bristling rage of late 60s Freddie Hubbard and a dollop
of the extended techniques of W. Leo Smith and Lester Bowie." - Mark
Keresman, JazzReview.com

Natsuki Tamura is often aptly compared to Don Cherry, Freddie Hubbard
and Lester Bowie. He has appeared at countless festivals around the
world as a solo and group performer. He has been performing on trumpet
since he was in junior high school and has also studied at Berklee
College of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music. Tamura is
featured in several of Fujii's groups and has performed with her
around the world. In addition to performance, Tamura composes for his
smaller groups as well as Fujii's orchestra. Tamura, like Fujiii, is
also equally capable in both improvisatory and compositional works.
The duo performance of Satoko Fujii & Natsuki Tamura is an opportunity
to see two master musicians in a setting that highlights their immense
talent.
